Alcohol Retailers/Servers
Alcohol Retailers
As an alcohol retailer in Waldo County, your role in reducing underage drinking is a very important responsibility.
Alcohol Advertising and Youth: Research indicates that, in addition to parents and peers, alcohol advertising and marketing have a significant impact on youth decisions to drink. While this cartoon might make you chuckle, it's a sobering fact that this year, more than 5,000 underage youth will die from alcohol-related causes -- that’s more than 13 kids every day. Teen-friendly marketing saturates TV, the Internet, sporting events, magazines -- everywhere. Did you know that up to 20% of alcohol profits come from underage consumption?
Alcohol Advertising and Promotion: The alcohol industry has a public responsibility relating to the marketing of its product, since its use is illegal for more than 80 million underage Americans. That responsibility can be fulfilled through products and advertising design and placement that meet these criteria.

Project Sticker Shock
The Sticker Shock Campaign is designed to reach adults who might purchase alcohol legally and provide it to minors.
Stickers warning about the penalties for furnishing alcohol to minors are placed on all multi-packs of beer, wine coolers, and other alcohol products that might appeal to underage drinkers.
The impact of the stickers is increased by media coverage of the event and by longer-lasting signs to be displayed by participating retailers.
The project represents a partnership between youth, retailers, concerned parents and community members, prevention professionals, and law enforcement with the goal of educating potential furnishers, raising public awareness about underage drinking, and strengthening the deterrent effect of the law against providing alcohol to minors.
